Match on action

Match on action may also be referred  to as Cutting on action. It is a film editing technique where editor cuts from one shot to another that's matches the first shots action.
The two shots may have been filmed with hours between them but match on action gives the look of continuous time.

By having a subject begin an action in one shot and carries it through in the next shot, a visual bridge is created which takes the audiences attention away from noticing the cut.
